FSC Certification

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit, international organization that promotes responsible management of the world's forests. FSC was established in response to concerns over deforestation and focuses on responsible forest management and develops chain of custom standards, delivers trademark assurance, and provides accreditation services to a variety of businesses, organizations, and communities.

Firms, especially printers working with large quantities of paper supplies, may become certified with FSC to show that they are complying with the highest social and environmental standards in regards to foresting and paper consumption. By becoming FSC certified, firms can show the public and consumers that they use responsible and ethically sound practices. FSC certification can protect brand equity and help establish brand identity.

The FSC Forest Management certification certifies the forest or plantation area for the source material. The FSC Chain of Custody certification tracks the FSC certified material through the supply chain to the store. Some FSC products may contain non-certified material, but the majority of the product including the source material is FSC certified.

Printers that use FSC certified paper or are themselves FSC certified as part of the supply chain are employing responsible production and consumption. An FSC Certification means the printer or firm you are working with has ethically sound business practices. From a corporate standpoint, an FSC certification is an excellent way to improve market access in environmentally aware sectors and to demonstrate compliance with policies and specifications considered environmentally friendly.
